Welcome Message
The ALERT Local Doctoral Course was launched in 2009 following the general scope of the Association of promoting collaboration in the field of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers training. It is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Olek Zienkiewicz, leading founder of the Finite Element Method and one of the founders of the ALERT network. It is my great pleasure to invite you to participate in the course of this year, which will provide a sound basis in the challenging area of the mechanics of unsaturated geomaterials. The course is open to all interested parties such as postgraduate students, researchers and practitioners.
The Course is hosted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, EPFL, in the beautiful city of Lausanne. It will have an interdisciplinary approach, offering lectures in the areas of the mechanics of soils, cement-based materials and rocks. The objective is to supply the participants with an extensive overview, starting from the basics and covering the most recent theories and applications (i.e. natural disasters, nuclear waste disposal, oil and agricultural engineering).
To complement the proposed comprehensive scientific program, friendly social events are scheduled.Prof. Lyesse Laloui
